Royal FloraHolland installs over 25,000 solar panels on the rooftops of its locations

Royal FloraHolland has commissioned a large new solar roof at its location in Aalsmeer. In total, it now has more than 25,000 solar panels on its roofs, spread over three locations in Aalsmeer, Rijnsburg and Eelde. The use of solar panels contributes to the goal of further reducing CO2 emissions from our operations. Together, these solar panels generate around 7.5 GWh/year, which is comparable to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 2,700 households.
C02 emissions reduced by 79%
Friso Sijbertsma, Asset Management Manager, Royal FloraHolland: “Our ambition is to achieve CO2 neutral energy consumption at our locations. We do this not only via solar panels, but also with geothermal energy at our location in Naaldwijk and since 2020 also the purchase of 100% green, certified electricity. Through a combination of these measures and techniques, we have reduced our CO2 emissions by 79% in 2020 compared to 2019. A result we are proud of! We continue to explore how to further reduce our carbon footprint.”
Collaboration with Vattenfall
Royal FloraHolland installed the solar panels in collaboration with Vattenfall. Roderick Glerum, head of sales B2B at Vattenfall, says about the collaboration: “It is Vattenfall's ambition to enable a fossil-free existence within one generation. We cannot, however, do this alone, and desperately need other companies like Royal FloraHolland. We are proud to have been able to contribute to the sustainability ambitions of a company so characteristic of the Netherlands.”
