Multi-transaction auctioning becomes the new standard in auctioning

April 1, 2025

Step by step, we tested and improved multi-transaction auctioning (MTA). With this method of auctioning, multiple transactions can be done on one clock stop (pressing moment). What started as a pilot on one rose clock last summer, grew into a successful scale-up to all rose clocks in January after several software improvements. The results show that auction time is on average 15 to 20 minutes shorter per day. Therefore, this efficient way of auctioning will now become the new standard on all flower and plant clocks.

Buy faster and work more efficiently
As up to eight transactions are possible per clock stop, buyers get the desired quantities for the desired price faster. This means lots are sold faster and auction time is shorter. As a result, buyers have more time left for other activities each day. Moreover, MTA ensures fuller carts, making the logistics process more efficient.

Step-by-step ready for the Mother's Day peak
To let buyers get used to it calmly before the busy purchasing period around the Dutch Mother's Day begins, we are introducing MTA step by step. We already auction with this method on all rose clocks. From Thursday 10 April, plant buyers will also have the opportunity to get used to MTA on one clock. We will then start with a soft launch on central plant clock C14 (green plants). Then, on 24 April, all other flower and plant clocks will switch to MTA.

New standard as of 24 April
So from Thursday 24 April, multi-transaction auctioning will be the new standard way of auctioning within Royal FloraHolland in Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk and Rijnsburg. MTA is not entirely new, there have been pilots in the past and there are other auctions within the floriculture market that also use it.

What does this mean for buyers?
As a buyer, you are more likely to buy something at the price point you press. Auctioning itself is not faster, but several transactions per clock stop are thus possible at the same time, reducing the overall auction time.
