Good conversations on many different topics during Two Days Members' Council
February 26, 2024

The Members' Council met in Delft on February 1 and 2 for the first meeting of the new year. These were two full days of intense and good discussions, during which many different topics were reviewed.
The first day began with a review of the past year and a look ahead. First on the agenda was the self-assessment of the Member's Council. This is done annually through a survey at the end of the year. New this time was that the Management and Supervisory Boards were also asked to evaluate the Members' Council. The main conclusion is that everyone thinks we are on the right track, but that there is more need for role clarity. The agenda of the Members' Council also requires extra attention: for some it is too full, while others miss topics. The Members' Council discusses these points with each other and agrees to make improvements.
Floriday and the future and earnings model of Royal FloraHolland
The various committees within the Members' Council - the Cooperative Committee, the Financial Committee, the Membership Committee and the Strategy Committee - shared their annual plans with the other Members' Council members. Which topics should each be on the agenda in 2024? Items that came back a lot: Floriday, the future and revenue model of Royal FloraHolland and member consultation. The various committees will work with the input. The Members' Council ensures that the right items are put on the agenda in meetings with the Management Board, the RVC, but also with the members of the cooperative. In doing so, the Council of Members must always stand up for the interests of the members. Therefore, next year even more attention will be paid to the arrangement of the committees. We want to be sure that all members are well represented on important issues.
Some topics that have already been picked up on this day: the degree of participation of the Members' Council in decisions taken by the company regarding captains, social safety within and in contact, (business) client and the interpretation of consultation sessions. In preparation for the formal meeting on March 28, the compensation of the SB was also discussed. At the end of the day, several members of the SB and Management Board joined, including the new CVO Pieter Bootsma. He personally introduced himself to the group and there was an opportunity to get to know each other a little better.
Update from Steven van Schilfgaarde and David van Mechelen
On the second day, the Members' Council received an extensive update from Steven van Schilfgaarde and David van Mechelen from the company. Afterwards there was an opportunity to talk further in small groups with these board members, the chairman (Evert van Helvoort) and vice chairman (Rosalie Zuurbier) of the Supervisory Board.
The rest of the day was spent on two topics of importance to our cooperative;
1. Certification, on which the Members' Council has only an advisory role. Decisions on this subject are the responsibility of the Management Board. The Members' Council discussed in groups, among other things, how desirable it is to develop a simplified FSI certificate for small growers, and whether it is desirable to give small growers more time for implementation.
2. Volume discount, with the Members' Council focusing not so much on the level or tiers, but rather on the cooperative question: what is the point of a volume discount and how should it be implemented? Consider, for example, what criteria we should use in applying the discount.
Two valuable days
The Members' Council looks back on two valuable days in which a lot of topics were discussed. It was nice to take the new members into their new role in this way and to see that after the familiarisation program, which took place before the two days, they were already able to talk and discuss the various topics so well.
