Step by step, we are working towards a new logistics process, moving from distribution to order picking and delivery in time slots. In Naaldwijk, after the flowers, the plants auctioned on clock 11 have already switched to order picking. What are the first experiences with buyers?

We ask 35-year-old Laurens Mulder, co-owner of The Flower Family. This company provides bouquets made by people with disabilities. Besides working for The Flower Family, Laurens helps his father, who with his export company Fleuromarché supplies both flowers and plants to florists and supermarkets in the Benelux and northern France.

Laurens enjoys innovating and constantly improving logistics processes. "I help my father set up and maintain the webshop, as well as assist in getting the processes a bit more in order. It sometimes became quite complicated, due to smaller orders from florists. That created friction in logistics, which meant drivers sometimes had to leave late. The time slots created by order picking are a godsend for us in that respect. We receive our products earlier, and we can process them faster, with fewer people. And we can plan better. Where before it sometimes only just worked out with the drivers' driving times, now there is more peace and quiet."

'Why wasn't it introduced earlier?'
The company also uses Select Delivery 6:00 - 8:00 a.m. for flowers. Laurens is currently running into the fact that not all products can be delivered early yet. "Then 80% of the trade is in, but you still have to wait for the rest, for example garden plants. It would make a big difference if everything arrived at 8.00 am. Then we can finish the order in one go. At the moment, there is still a lot of walking back and forth, which takes up a lot of time and space, because you still have to display all the trolleys. If you can process per order, it saves time, volume and manpower. So I am very positive about order picking and time slots. Actually, I wonder: why wasn't this introduced earlier?"

For now, the company is not yet opting for other time slots besides Select Delivery 6:00 - 8:00. "If the peak becomes too high, we might also have a part delivered in the afternoon, but not at the moment." As for wishes for the future, Laurens can't wait until the other plant clocks in Naaldwijk also switch to the order picking process. Then he will be able to use the timeframe for that too. "Preferably as soon as possible!"
